We are living in a digital world where almost everything is done in front of the screen, right from checking weather updates to buying our groceries. And one of the fast-emerging trends in this digital world is the Augmented Reality (AR). We have seen quite a few early applications of Augmented Reality on Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp and other social media, but, would you believe that these have started to trend even in the cosmetics industries? Yes, you read that right!

One of the cosmetic giants to exploit this trend is L'Oreal. They have recently acquired ModiFace, a major AR beauty company to work on L'Oreal's AR project. So let's dive in and see how it's going to help the company and its customers.

1. Increase In Customer base

The purpose of integrating their products with Augmented Reality aligns well with their mission - Beauty for all. This helps to increase their customer base as most of the users are Millennials who are ardent digital users. This serves as a simpler and user-friendly interface where customers will be able to try out products from their choice of place.

2. Increase in Sales

Since it's one of the first companies to integrate Augmented Reality for their products and for the convenience of their customers, there has been a drastic shift to try out L'Oreal's products. They are also planning to integrate it with the WeChat application, which is an extensively used messenger app by Chinese, thus, capturing the Chinese market.

3. User experience

AR gives out real-time experience through the interaction between the customers and their products. This aids the customers to get the exact idea of how the product will look on them, and thus, giving a better decision-making power. Augmented Reality is also a familiar interface for the millennials (who form the majority) as it is being used extensively via social media.

4. Partnering up

L'Oreal has extended their hand by providing this feature to other distribution channels such as Amazon and Facebook over some discreet advantages. This actually shows their sincerity towards their vision and strategy (as mentioned above).

5. Lowering wastage

Investments made on samples will definitely be reduced as Augmented Reality will be taking over this space. It will also help reduce plastic wastes leading the company towards greener environment.
